Industrial robotics development can be complicated.
Teams often have to build or integrate software for motion control, perception, simulation, hardware communication and robot programming.
Intrinsic Core aims to simplify that process by making core parts of Intrinsic's robotics platform open source.
Intrinsic announced the project at ROSCon 2026 and released it under the Apache 2.0 license.
Intrinsic Core is an open-source set of ROS-compatible capabilities for building industrial robotics applications.
It includes:
Real-time control
Motion planning
Perception
Grasp planning
Simulation
Digital twins
Hardware integration
The platform is designed to work with local hardware and provide a more standardized development environment.
Robotics developers often spend significant time integrating different hardware and software components.
Open-source building blocks can reduce that initial engineering work.
Intrinsic also provides an Open Machine Tending Solution that demonstrates how the platform can be applied to industrial CNC machine tending.
Physical AI requires software that can connect intelligence with physical action.
A model may understand an image, but the robot still needs to know:
Where an object is
How to grasp it
How to move safely
How to adapt to sensor feedback
How to communicate with the hardware
Intrinsic Core is focused on this layer between AI models and physical machines.
Open-source robotics infrastructure could make experimentation easier for developers, researchers and manufacturers.
The challenge will be moving from prototype to reliable production systems.
Industrial environments require deterministic behavior, safety controls, hardware compatibility and long-term maintenance.
Intrinsic Core doesn't eliminate those challenges.
But it could reduce some of the software infrastructure teams need to build from scratch.
Have a project in mind? We'd love to hear about it. Tell us what you're building and let's explore what's possible.
