Claude Marketplace: Anthropic Wants to Build an AI App Store

Anthropic has launched the Claude Marketplace, creating a centralized place where businesses can discover plugins, connectors, agents, products and services that work with Claude.

The marketplace launched on September 23, 2026. Anthropic says more than 2,000 plugins and connectors are already available, including integrations from companies such as Atlassian, Google, Microsoft, Notion and Salesforce.

This is an important step for Claude.

AI assistants are becoming platforms rather than standalone chatbots.

The model is only one part of the product.

Users also need access to company data, software systems, workflows and specialized agents.

A marketplace gives developers a way to package those capabilities.

For businesses, it creates a simpler discovery process.

Instead of searching separately for an AI connector, agent or service, teams can browse one ecosystem.

For developers, the opportunity is potentially even bigger.

A company can build a specialized tool for Claude and distribute it to organizations already using the platform.

That starts to resemble the economics of traditional software marketplaces.

There is also an enterprise angle.

Anthropic's marketplace isn't only about consumer-style plugins.

The company is positioning it around business workflows, including connectors and services that allow Claude to work with existing enterprise systems.

This could become particularly important as agentic AI grows.

An agent needs tools.

One agent might need Salesforce.

Another might need Jira.

Another might need internal databases.

Another might need a specialized compliance service.

A marketplace creates a standardized way to connect those capabilities.

Anthropic is therefore making a larger bet:
